Washington State QuarterThe Washington state quarter is due to come out next month. Hard to believe it's been 8 years since the program started. In a shockingly anticipated non-upset, the design features Mount Rainier and a salmon. The governor chose between three designs, shown at the bottom here; one of the others had Mount Rainier and a salmon AND some apples; the third was a neat-looking Native American drawing of an Orca, which finished last in public voting.
I had a brilliant idea (too late of course): we should have chosen the same bust of George Washington that is on the back, and put it on the front (but with the words Washington 1889 etc). It would have been a double-headed quarter. How cool would that have been?
